Serving Those We Love

  • When I go to Zion for worship, the first members I encounter are those faithfully standing at their posts, guiding the flow of traffic in the parking lots. Whether in the sweltering heat of summer or the biting cold of winter, whether at dawn or late in the evening, they are always there.

With so many brothers and sisters coming to worship God each week, the number of vehicles entering and exiting the church is significant. The area near my local church branches off from a main road into several parking lots, making traffic control essential for smooth and orderly movement. Without guidance, the roads would quickly become congested with cars moving from various directions.

One day, I observed the line of cars waiting to leave after the service. Vehicles from different parking lots had formed a long queue, each waiting for a signal from a traffic volunteer. Everyone was attentively watching the direction of the traffic wand held in the volunteer's hands. When the signal was given to go, all cars began to move in unison. When told to stop, drivers slowed down and waited patiently, allowing others from another direction to proceed. With just a few simple gestures and glances exchanged between drivers and volunteers, the long queue began to clear efficiently and smoothly.

As I watched the volunteers busily directing traffic with their wands, I was filled with gratitude. Thanks to their dedicated service, many of our members could return home safely. Although they wore masks to protect themselves from exhaust fumes and dust, their warm smiles still shone through.

I’m truly thankful not only for the traffic volunteers, but also for all the members in Zion who serve in so many ways—ushering for services, cleaning, preparing meals, and caring for one another with love and unity. Through their selfless actions, I was reminded of God’s sacrificial love and service toward us. I was deeply moved by the way they embody God’s love by putting others’ needs before their own.

It caused me to contemplate the true nature of Zion as God intended it to be. Ephesians 4:16 says, “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” A Zion that puts this verse into practice—a place of unity, love, and mutual support—is surely the Zion that moves God’s heart.

Everyone likes to be honored and treated with respect. But God desires that His children honor and uplift one another. Remembering the words, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me,” I want to serve and respect my brothers and sisters sincerely. I will do my best to help build a Zion overflowing with the love of our Heavenly Father and Mother. I will generously express my heartfelt desire to give only the best to those I love, just as our Heavenly Father and Mother have treasured every soul.
