A few months ago, my doctor prescribed me two medications for an ailment I am learning to cope with. Let’s call the medicines Pill A and Pill B. Pill A is taken once daily to prevent the illness from happening. If I forget to take it once, I cannot make up for it by taking two. I must call my doctor right away.
Despite taking Pill A daily, the illness can still spring up out of nowhere. That is when I would take Pill B to treat the illness. However, the regimen for taking Pill B is much more rigorous. It is one tablet every four hours for 24 hours. That is six times more than the medicine to prevent! Besides, Pill A is extremely inexpensive in comparison to Pill B. To lessen the trouble of treating the illness, it is important to make the best effort to prevent the illness first by not forgetting to take Pill A.
Through these two pills, I learned I must not miss my daily dose of God’s word, which is the medication for my soul. Sin is spiritual illness that humankind is prone to. By studying God’s word daily, I can prevent myself from committing sins. However, if I go a day without God’s word, I would impose harm to my soul and cause Heavenly Parents to work harder to remove my sins and make me stronger and ready to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Just as I must call my doctor when I miss one dose of Pill A, I must call upon Father and Mother, my Spiritual Doctors, through prayers if I were to go a day without Their word. That is how serious it is for our soul.
I am still susceptible to illness despite taking daily medicine just like I am susceptible to sinning and falling into trials and hardships despite eating the word of God. However, by staying close to God’s word daily, I can have spiritual strength to overcome. Those trials will no longer be trials but bridges to build my faith and spiritual immunity. In fact, prevention is the best medicine for the soul.
Although I knew I should study the word of God every day, Father and Mother gave me practical lessons through the medications I was prescribed with. I sincerely give thanks to God for giving me this valuable teaching and sharing it with my heavenly family around the world.
