I was deeply moved because so much of the story reflected my own. For more than ten years, I, too, had a very rigid heart, but as I came to understand God’s love, I began to soften and grow gentler. Even now, I am still changing. I am truly thankful to Heavenly Mother, who patiently endured and waited for me throughout that process.

I’ve come to realize just how difficult—and how much effort it truly takes—to change one’s thoughts, deeply held notions, and habits of speech. I was deeply moved by the story of the member who, after understanding Heavenly Mother’s love, patiently corrected these habits one by one and discovered genuine joy in life. I, too, have often tried to change myself the moment I became aware of a wrong habit, only to have my determination fading after a few days. From now on, I will resolve to always renew my heart and consistently put the Words of Mother’s Love into practice.

The person featured in this “Fragrance of Zion” story turned out to be a member I met at the Zion I visited recently to see my son during his military service. I was deeply moved by his gracious, faith-filled presence, and only later did I realize that there was a profound journey of transformation behind it. Learning that he practiced Heavenly Mother’s love with such patience and effort, even in unseen places, has led me to reflect on my own life once again.
