There have been times when words have weighed heavily on my heart. Yet, as this story shows, words spoken with care, blessing, and love can bring great strength and encouragement. While I was helping prepare a meal for the members at Zion, I felt discouraged because a fried dish didn’t turn out as I had hoped. Just then, the overseer’s wife gently said, “It looks delicious. You worked so hard.” Her words instantly lifted my spirits, and I was deeply moved by her sincere practice of Words of Mother’s Love.

This story made me reflect on the careless words I’ve spoken in the past. As the saying goes, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it”—the way we express ourselves truly matters. I realized that I, too, need to work on softening my blunt and sometimes harsh manner of speaking.

I understand the importance of words, yet in the midst of conversation, ungracious or hurtful remarks sometimes slip out without my realizing it. Knowing that words cannot be taken back once spoken, I want to be mindful of how deeply even careless comments can affect others. Going forward, I will make a conscious effort to speak words that uplift and convey grace to those around me.
