My dad leaves for work at 2 in the morning and comes back home at around 2 in the afternoon except for one day out of the week.
Holding an auction for fruits at a wholesale market is what my dad does.
When I was in elementary school, I didn’t understand why my dad had to leave so early in the morning for work, and I just didn’t like how he couldn’t make it to the sports day.
When I was in the third grade, he, as usual, told me that he wouldn’t be able to make it to the sports day.
On the sports day, there were dances, a pinata game, and a short-track by grade. Finally, it was time for the relay race, the highlight of the sports day.
Being short, I had a hard time watching the relay because of all the tall adults and older students.
I was standing on my tiptoes and stretching my neck as much as possible, and suddenly the view became clear and a cool breeze was felt.
My dad was holding me up high.
He had beads of sweat still on his face from work.
He must have come straight to my school as soon as he finished his work and looked for me in the crowd, running everywhere.
That year’s sports day which was accompanied with my dad’s happy smile is still in my heart as the happiest memory.
