Faith of Abraham

  • Abraham obeyed God’s command to sacrifice his son Isaac, whom he had when he was one hundred years old, as a burnt offering. As a result of overcoming the test, he earned the title, the forefather of faith. God promised to make Abraham’s descendants numerous as the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore through Isaac.

To me, the command to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt offering seemed extremely difficult. Wondering what kind of mindset Abraham had, I came across a verse that helped me estimate the depth of his faith.

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.” (Heb 11:17–19)

Abraham believed that God had the power to fulfill His promise even by raising dead Isaac to life. I want to have a firm faith like that of Abraham. I am determined to overcome all kinds of tests, believing that God surely fulfills His promise.
