The Gobi Desert

  • Recently, I visited my hometown in years to celebrate the Naadam, a Mongolian holiday. Together with my family and relatives, I went to the Khongor River in Omnogovi Aimag (an administrative subdivision of Mongolia, similar to a province or state).

The weather is hot and rain is scarce in the Gobi Desert, so the trees are dry and the ground is scorching hot. However, God makes impossible things possible; He made even such a hot desert be in harmony with forests. Beyond the vast Gobi Desert, you can see high mountains and endless sand dunes on the other side. It is amazing that the cool spring water is flowing and the grass is growing in front of the sand that is hot enough to burn your feet if you walk barefoot on a hot day.

On a hot weather, it is very difficult to go up to the top of the dunes, because the heat of the sand rises under your feet and the sun is blazing down upon your head. However, when we went there, the rain moistened the sand and the clouds covered the sunlight. The rain and clouds provided by God made it easy for us to climb the sand dunes.

Climbing the sand dunes, I thought that walking the desert of faith was the same. Even though it looks difficult, it is filled with God’s grace. God always pours down the rain of the Holy Spirit on wherever His children are, and gives them strength to endure and keep walking the rough and difficult paths. I realize God’s invisible love through nature. I am truly grateful to God for choosing us among many people like sand, forgiving our grievous sins, and giving us abundant blessings and great love.
