During my visit to Sri Lanka, an island nation south of India, I often saw people of all ages flying kites. Unlike in Korea, where kite flying is mostly enjoyed on special occasions such as holidays and festivals, people in Sri Lanka enjoy it throughout the year. Perhaps the country’s many wide-open fields and year-round breezes make it an ideal place for flying kites.
Whenever I watched kites of every color and shape riding the wind and soaring higher and higher, I could feel my own earnest wishes rising toward the heavens with them. One wish especially close to my heart was to see the good news of salvation spread throughout Sri Lanka. Even now, after returning to Korea, I continue to pray earnestly that the gospel work in that distant island nation will soon be completed.
