A Passage Engraved in My Soul

The Faith of Hezekiah

  • While listening to a sermon about the cross, I read the passage describing King Hezekiah tearing down idols. It is a passage I have encountered many times, yet that day, the verses that followed spoke to my heart in a new way.

I had always known that Hezekiah was a king who did what was right in God’s sight, but I had never fully understood the depth of his faith. The Bible testifies that among all the kings of Judah, none was like him. Hezekiah continually relied on God and remained united with Him without turning away. Because he clung to God, God remained with him, and He granted him success wherever he went.

As I read this passage, I was led to examine my own heart. When situations arise, I often try to take control and move forward according to my own thoughts and intentions. Though I recognize how foolish and unsettling it is to make decisions of faith based on my narrow experience and limited understanding, I still find myself struggling to change.

Through this word, I resolved to cultivate the habit of first relying on God and bringing every matter before Him in prayer. Rather than placing my own will first, I earnestly long to become a child who, like Hezekiah, remains united with God and prospers in all things through Him.
