At the Passover supper, Jesus prayed earnestly for His disciples. Again and again, He expressed His desire that they would overcome the world’s hatred and persecution, faithfully fulfill the gospel mission, and become completely one through unity. Although He was about to face the suffering of the cross and complete the work of salvation alone, His concern was not for Himself. Instead, His heart was deeply concerned about the disciples who would remain in the world after His death, and He longed for them to be united in God.
Despite this, the disciples did not understand His heart. Even at the Passover supper, where the blessing of eternal life was granted, they argued among themselves about who was the greatest (Lk 22:20–24). As I reflected on this scene, I realized that their behavior was no different from my own. Thinking of how Heavenly Father and Mother must feel as They look upon such pride and lack of unity brought me to tears. I came to understand that truly loving Father and Mother means following Their example—humbling myself and serving my brothers and sisters with love.
The prayer Jesus offered two thousand years ago continues today as the prayer of Heavenly Mother. Now is the time for us to love and serve one another in God and to bring about true and complete unity.
