The Morning

  • “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.” (Ps 130:5—7)

When the Psalms were written, what could “morning” have meant to watchmen? Most likely, it represented an earnest, anxious longing. In those days, there were no electric lights; watchmen had to endure the pitch-black night relying on nothing but a single torch. In such darkness—never knowing when an enemy might strike—we can imagine the fear and tension they must have felt. The night must have dragged on endlessly, and they would have longed with all their heart for the first light of dawn.

In the same way, our souls once longed for God even more desperately than a watchman waits for the morning. After committing the sin of death and coming down to this earth, our future seemed cloaked in darkness. Yet through God’s unfailing love and the abundant grace of redemption, we have finally welcomed the dawn. Now, I await the eternal morning of heaven—a morning to share forever with our Heavenly Father and Mother. With the oil of faith prepared in abundance, I will continue to seek for our heavenly family who are still waiting for the morning in the darkness.
