Like a Tree

  • At the slightest breeze, the calliopsis sways endlessly. As though it has lost its bearing, it bends first one way, then the other, wherever the wind carries it.

The tree behind it is different. Though it faces the same wind, it quietly holds its ground. It remains unmoved not because there is no wind, but because it has a firm center.

Looking at the steadfast tree, I learn a lesson about life. We cannot avoid the winds that come our way, whether great or small. In the end, perhaps what truly matters is not the strength of the wind, but whether our own center remains firm.
