While reading this story, it suddenly struck me that tomorrow is my younger daughter’s birthday. She began working even before graduating and had lived far away for quite some time, but it’s already been over a year since we started living together again. I’ve often felt sorry for not taking better care of her, and if it weren’t for Elohist, I might have forgotten her birthday again this year. I quickly fetched some seaweed and soaked it in water. Tomorrow morning, I’ll make a warm, delicious seaweed soup to celebrate her special day.

Reading the story of a mother who cooked seaweed soup for her daughter’s birthday, even from afar, reminded me of my own mother. On my birthday, I always receive a call from my mom. She tells me that her whole body aches, and when she glances at the calendar, she realizes it’s my birthday. She asks if I’ve had seaweed soup and says she’ll send me some money so I can enjoy a nice meal with my family. Strangely, my mom always seems to feel unwell around the birthdays of her five children—perhaps because she gave her whole body to bring us into the world. Thinking of her reminds me once again of the immeasurable love and sacrifice of our Heavenly Mother.
(Three) Han Hyeon-a / South Korea
My mom, who lives in the countryside, makes seaweed soup on my birthday and always reminds me to make some for myself, too. Even though we speak on the phone often, birthdays seem to make us miss each other all the more. Reading this story made me deeply feel the endless love of a mother who always wishes only the best for her daughter.
