There are many young adults in our Zion who live on their own. Since we know what it is like to be away from our parents, we naturally look out for one another—asking how everyone is doing, whether they have been eating properly, and whether they are feeling well. Living on your own can feel freeing at first, especially after living with family. But that sense of freedom soon wears off when you are far from home with no one to look after you. It is easy to get on by on inadequate meals, and if you get sick, you may keep it to yourself so your parents will not worry, suffering alone until you finally manage to fall asleep.
One day, while I was not feeling well, I was chatting with some of the Zion members. They looked concerned as they held my hand, patted me on the shoulder, and offered words of comfort. One sister must have been especially worried about me, because after she got home, she sent me this message:
“Sister, I’m praying for you. If you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know. And if you need someone to take care of you, just tell me. I’ll reach out to you too if I ever need help, hehe.”
Perhaps she added a playful touch so that I would not feel burdened. I could sense the sincerity behind her message, and a deep sense of gratitude washed over me. From the members’ expressions and tone of voice, I could immediately tell how genuinely they care about me and how thoughtfully they chose their words to encourage me. In every warm glance and kind word, I felt so much of Heavenly Mother’s heart.
The Bible teaches us that whatever we do to care for our brothers and sisters, we do for God Himself (Mt 25:40). Reflecting on these words, I looked back on myself and wondered whether the warmth in my words to my brothers and sisters truly matched the heart and attitude I had when praying to God.
From now on, I want not only to give thanks to God each day, but also to share more of the “Words of Mother’s Love” with my brothers and sisters, offering them strength and comfort. I will pass on the comfort and encouragement I have received by sharing words of love with them in abundance. I sincerely give thanks to Heavenly Father and Mother for allowing me to walk the gospel path toward heaven with such precious brothers and sisters, so that no one has to walk it alone.
