I tend to have low self-esteem. I often worry about what others think of me and feel that I lack the talents to be of much use. As I read this story, one sentence especially stayed with me: “Your worth is not for you to decide. You may not recognize your value right now, but it is surely there.” Reflecting on the power of God Elohim, who brings mushrooms into bloom from a dead branch, I am determined to carry out the gospel with confidence.

Someone once told me that there was nothing I couldn’t do. But I wasn’t sure there was anything I did particularly well. I wanted to try all kinds of things, yet I never seemed to see anything through. Even so, I am deeply grateful to God for making someone like me a gospel worker. Just as a branch once thought useless can blossom with mushrooms, I, too, hope to bring forth the flowers of the gospel.

There were times when I felt utterly insignificant in the world. At such moments, I wondered how someone as weak and insignificant as I was could possibly contribute to the gospel, and my faith began to falter. But when I saw the mushroom springing to life from a dead branch, I realized that I should not be so quick to judge what God can do. The very fact that He called me into the truth means that He has entrusted me with a mission in the gospel, and that realization brings me comfort and strength.
