Wise Words that Bring Peace

  • Conflicts between people rarely begin with anything dramatic. More often, they arise from a single remark or a small, thoughtless action. The real challenge, however, is what happens next. When neither side is willing to take a step back, a relationship can quickly fall apart. The words we choose in response to another person’s actions often determine the direction that relationship will take.

Before David became king, he spent years wandering in the wilderness. During that time, a wealthy man named Nabal benefited greatly from David’s protection, whether he realized it or not. Yet Nabal disregarded David’s goodwill and, when David requested assistance, contemptuously replied, “Who is David?” Enraged, David set out to destroy Nabal and his entire household.

When Abigail, Nabal’s wife, heard what had happened, she quickly prepared gifts and went to meet David. Bowing before him, she humbly took the blame upon herself and pleaded for mercy. She then reminded him that he would one day rule over Israel and urged him not to have on his conscience the staggering burden of needless bloodshed or of having avenged himself. Praising her wisdom, David accepted her counsel and sheathed his sword (1 Sam 25:2–35).

Conflicts, both large and small, inevitably arise in our daily lives. In those moments, let us take a step back and share “The Words of Mother's Love that Bring Peace” given to us by God Elohim in this age. Simple words of kindness can melt away a cold heart, and simple words of wisdom can allow peace to settle in.
