Reading this story made me think of my father. I remembered giving him a cool rinse after he came home from working in the summer heat, and the times he would call me every day when I was living far from home, asking if everything was all right. It has now been exactly one week since he underwent major surgery. I had always thought of him as strong—someone who worked tirelessly and sacrificed for his family. But seeing him now, smaller and more fragile than I am, weakened both in body and spirit, brought a deep ache to my heart. Perhaps our Heavenly Father, too, has walked the path of suffering and hardship solely for His children. Today, I feel even more grateful for our Father’s love.

Reading this reminded me of both my earthly father and our Heavenly Father. My father works as a city bus driver, often leaving home at five in the morning and returning late at night, sometimes as late as eleven. The reason I have a home to return to at the end of the day—a bed to rest in and a warm, comfortable room—is because of his sacrifice. In the same way, our Heavenly Father endured immense suffering, humiliation, and hardship, and through His devoted sacrifice, opened the way of the gospel. I will never forget the sacrifices of my parents, both physical and spiritual, nor take them for granted. I will strive to honor their love and repay their grace as a devoted daughter.

My mother leaves for work in the evening and returns at dawn, while my father goes out early in the morning and comes home in the evening. As I watch their sacrifices, I come to feel the love and sacrifice of my Heavenly Parents as well. Not only my earthly parents, but also my Heavenly Parents work for one reason alone—Their children.
